Journey to Everest Base Camp

Day 01: Journey to Everest Base Camp begins with the 40 minutes flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. Many people who ever have done this adventurous and scenic flight before such an exciting journey. These smallest planes take you to the Khumbu region of Nepal in the Everest region.

Journey to Everest Base Camp

Everest Base Camp trek starts from the village of Lukla 2860m to Everest base camp elevation 5368m. You can have some meal before you start the Everest Base Camp journey. The journey should take two to three hours to Phakding from Lukla. The trek starts with a gentle climb on the mountain on the left bank of the Dudhkoshi River which provides the lovely views of the day. By the time you reach Phakding. You will be almost 200m lower than at Lukla. There are large numbers of accommodations are available at Phakding. The most of lodge has a three-story building with a dining room full bar, restaurant, and cybercafé. The quality is very basic. To be noted that, nowadays there are no direct flights from Kathmandu to Lukla and Lukla to Kathmandu due to upgrading/maintenance and control the traffic. That is why the journey to Everest Base Camp starts the first  4 hours driving to Manthali (132km) from Kathmandu then take a short flight to Lukla 15 minutes.

Day 02: Phakding to Namche trekking is five to six-hour, depends on your physical fitness level. The day starts with very easy, the path following up and the Dudhkoshi valley follows below. The trail surrounded by rhododendron forest. There are several villages along the way which serve you the food. As you leave Monjo the direction of Namche, you enter at known as the Sagarmatha National Park, so it is the entry point of the national park. Several times you have to cross Dudhkoshi with the suspension bridges and locals are decorated both sides of the bridge by prayer flags. It is very secure, no need to be worried. After Jorsalle, there are no places to eat a meal or any tea house. That is why you need to prepare with enough drinking water and food from Jorsalle. After a short walk, there are two more bridges to cross after Jorsalle and after the second one surprisingly gets the difficulty of the trek. The walk to Namche is very steeply and continued up the trail and there is no level to walk downhills. This section takes about two or more hours. You need to take short breaks from time to time to take a breath. At this altitude level, your body knows the lack of oxygen in the air. As you reach Namche, you have to pass the police check post and show them permits. Namche Bazaar is the most important town of the Khumbu region, the land of the Sherpa people. This land is situated at the 3440 meters above sea level. You can buy all trekking and climbing gear as well in Namche Bazaar. 

Day 03: After the difficulty day at Namche, the idea behind as a rest or as a reserve, the day for the acclimatization to climb higher during the day and sleep lower. This will help your body at an altitude more easily. The most trekkers as commonly take to the Hotel Everest view and it takes about two hours. From Hotel Everest's view, it's a spectacular view of the world's highest Mount Everest and others.

Day 04: The walk should take five to seven hours between Namche and Tengboche. It begins very tiring steep out of the Namche village. The sound of the wind is very quickly blowing in the trees and the sound coming from Yaks bells. Tengboche monastery can be seen in a distance as well as the summit of Mount Everest. After twenty minutes of walking the ground level often find your patient and peace. Now, it is an easy level of walking flat and downhill to Phortse Tenga but after the place, you need to walk to top uphill about two more hours. The most trekkers stop here for lunch before attempting to make the final push to Tengboche. The soft drink price is 50% higher than Lukla and other meals also a similarly higher price. Tengboche village is situated at an altitude of 3867m. In this village, there is an important Buddhist monastery and it is the largest monastery of the Khumbu region. The monastery was built in 1923 but it was fired destroyed in 1989. After that, it is rebuilt by the help of volunteer and foreign organizations. From Tengboche is a great view of Ama Dablam and Everest and more peaks as well. There are several lodges to choose from for overnight stay. The lodges' quality is a little lower than Namche.

Day 05: The walk starts gently slope downhill to Dingboche from Tengboche but after crossing Imja River the most of the day walk along the river valley. There are lovely families' tea shops along the way of providing tasty foods and tea. Overall, it is an easy but long day trekking journey approximately with the six hours. At this altitude, many trekkers suffer by mind headaches and shortened the breath. The Dingboche is located at the Chhukung valley at the altitude of 4530m. Trekkers spend two nights at Dingboche for acclimatization. The Imja River follows to the east valley beside the Dingboche village. An expensive internet café and satellite phones are available here also like phoning home or any emergency cases. 

Day 06: Most of the trekkers hanging on around and some trekkers hike to above Dingboche where is a peak called Nangkartshang with the altitude of 5100 and some trekkers hiking to Chhukkung and Chhukung Ri as well who are enough fit physically. Do some hiking and walking activities to higher hills and sleep at Dingboche.

Day 07: The day starts with a little steep up at the edge of the hill and provides a great view of Chhukung valley with visible Island peak at the end of the valley. The most trekkers take a short break here at this point. Today takes about a 6-hour trek and it depends on how altitude affects you. As you walk along beside in the valley if you look down at the left small village called Pheriche. There is a medical center, in the case of emergency can be treated and for miner illness with a fixed charge and it is free for locals. Most of the walk today relatively level ground, there are few signs for civilization which is used now for yak hut. There are a couple of small lodges called Thukla where you may have a tea break and refreshment. The walk from Thukla is steady steep uphill along the rocky trail for an hour then ground level easy walk to a small settlement, called Lobuche. Compared to Dingboche and Tengboche, there are not many things here. There are few lodges and camping areas at Lobuche. The village is quite exposed and the high wind blows around the village. Just relax in the indoor (better climb a little hill above Lobuche for acclimatization). The settlement of Lobuche is situated at the altitude of 4930m.

Day 08: Today you will be trek approximately 5 km to Gorakshep from Lobuche. By the distance, it does not sound like much but at this altitude may take about three to 4 hour. There is no clear path over the loose rocks that walk on some difficulty. Before you reach the Gorakshep you can see in the valley some blue roof of the lodges. The Gorakshep is Base Camp of Mount Everest. Gorakshep settlement is located at the bottom of the peak, called Kalapathar which appears just big mango shape south face mount Pumori. Many trekkers of the Mount Everest region will be attempted so much to Kalapathar since providing the most success view to Mount Everest. Due to the structure of Mount Everest cannot be seen from the base camp.

The final part of Everest Base Camp trek takes three hours from Gorakshep and it is difficult and dangerous so far due to Khumbu glacier. There you may see crashed helicopter because of the so thin air at this altitude landing and taking off can be difficult. Unlike the rest of the trek, there is no path follow here. So this neither part nor recommended to attempted without Himalayan experienced trekking guide. The journey takes over the Khumbu glacier, finally ending at the base of Khumbu icefall. Thus ends a journey to Everest Base Camp. You can see at the Base camp where icefall from Khumbu icefall and is regarded as one of the most dangerous stages to the south Col route of Everest Summiteers. It depends on what time you trek to Everest base camp because you may see their tents of Everest climbers supporters crew. The months of April and May are busy times of the year for the Mount Everest expedition. You may visit one of Kalapathar or Base Camp the day you reach to Gorakshep. If so, you can visit one spot then trek back to Pheriche next day.

Day 09: Trek back to Pheriche

Day 10: Trek Back to Namche

Day 11: Trek Back to Lukla

Day 12: fly to Manthali or Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel
